An Update - From Darren
Everything is ok with Suzy, she just wants me to add an update since I will remember more. Plus she's tired and has a sore butt from a bone marrow biopsy yesterday (Friday) at the SCCA. As she was coming out of sedation, she asked one of the nurses for her apple pie recipe. :D Hehe
Suzy's dad was in town this past week, getting checked out at the SCCA to make sure he'll be able to go through the donation process. There weren't any problems and they gave him a clean bill of health. That was good news.
Suzy went through a battery of tests this past week and I believe she still has more tests next week, as well as some classes on food safety and stuff like that. I'll be taking time off work this coming week to go to some of the classes and conferences with her, especially the ones dealing with food safety, medications, etc. Oh, she had a pulmonary (lung) function test this past week and did better than she expected. So that was good news too.
She'll be moving into the Pete Gross House on October 9th, and they're aiming for a transplant date right around Halloween. Tyler and I will be trading off living with Suzy for a period of about two months following the transplant to help manage her medications and keep an eye on her. I'll be with her in the evenings, and Tyler will be with her in the mornings. I'm hoping things will work out so that I'll have a bit of free time to wander around Downtown Seattle since the Space Needle will be less than a mile away, and Pike Place Market is just over a mile. I'll be able to do a lot of exploring, if time allows.
We met with a nutritionist on Friday and found that Suzy's not eating enough. She's just not had the appetite lately. This is a concern because we don't want her wasting away before she goes through the transplant. So she needs to be getting a lot of protein and calories. So we got a new blender and stuff to make high-protein smoothies.
I guess that's about it. I'll probably be the one updating this blog over the next few months, or longer if necessary. I'll try to keep updating on a regular basis and let you all know when we get firm dates for things.
